Great Expectations Come With Great Pressure For Brandon Wood

Motivational speaker Earl Nightingale, who came to be known as the Dean of Personal Development, once said that "We tend to live up to our expectations."

Hmm, I wonder if Mr. Nightingale was much of a sports fan.

It seems as though expectations are the single worst thing you can place on a young athlete, and the earlier those expectations are placed on an athlete, the more chances of that athlete falling well short of those expectations.

While there have been some athletes to exceed even the greatest of expectations -- Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzy -- more often than not, even the most talented athletes don't quite live up to their expectations.

The Angels are hoping Brandon Wood will not be the latest to join that trend.
