LOBBESTAEL, HALL AND THOMAS NAMED U.S. BANK PAC-10 FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--Quarterback Marshall Lobbestael of Washington State, defensive back Corey Hall and return man Mike Thomas, both of Arizona have been named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Players of the Week in football, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced.

Lobbestael, a redshirt freshman from Oak Harbor, Wash., who had thrown only two passes all year, came off the bench to lead Washington State to a 48-9 win against Portland State.

Entering the game after injuries to the Cougars first two quarterbacks, Lobbestael's first two pass attempts went for touchdowns covering 14 and 53 yards. He ended up completing 9 of 12 passes (.750) for 149 yards and the two touchdowns with no interceptions. The Cougars scored on the first four possessions after he entered the game. Washington State's offense piled up 36 first downs and 638 yards total offense (277 rushing, 361 passing).

Hall and Thomas played key roles in Arizona's 31-10 road win at UCLA. Hall, a junior from DeSoto, Texas, posted six tackles, four solo, including one quarterback sack and broke up two passes, leading Arizona's defensive effort. The Wildcat defense did not allow a touchdown and limited UCLA to 11 first downs and 196 yards of total offense (115 rushing, 81 passing).

Thomas, a senior also from DeSoto, Texas, had 257 all-purpose yards against UCLA, including 107 yards on six punt returns (17.8), with three of the returns setting up Arizona touchdowns. Hall and Thomas were teammates at DeSoto (Texas) High School.

Also nominated for offensive player of the week honors were running back Toby Gerhart of Stanford and tight end Rob Gronkowski of Arizona. Also nominated on defense were linebacker Pat Maynor of Stanford and safety Xavier Hicks of Washington State. Kicker Aaron Zagory of Stanford was nominated for special teams play.
