Ailing USC quarterback Barkley shows improvement - LA Daily News

USC quarterback Matt Barkley's bruised shoulder will probably not be 100 percent by Saturday's game against Washington State, but the freshman made a surprising number of passes during Monday's practice and no longer altered his throwing motion.

But USC coach Pete Carroll said he will wait to see how Barkley responds before naming him the starter.

"I'd love for him to come back and start if he is ready," Carroll said. "He did all right (Monday)."

Barkley was given Monday off but insisted on throwing and took more snaps than last week's starter, Aaron Corp.
