DAVON JEFFERSON SIGNS WITH HEAT...MACCABI HAIFA HEAT

LOS ANGELES – Former USC basketball player Davon Jefferson has signed with the Maccabi Haifa Heat of the Israeli Premier League it was announced this week.

Jefferson was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman team for the 2007-08 season after he had one of the fi nest freshman seasons in USC history. The forward played in 29 games and averaged 12.1 points and 6.3 rebounds for the Trojans, both second best on the team.

He cracked into USC’s all-time freshman top 10 in points (8th -351), points per game (T-8th -12.1), fi eld goal percentage (3rd - .575), free throws made (6th - 71), blocks (8th - 28) and rebounds (4th - 182).

Jefferson had his biggest collegiate game on Jan. 19, 2008 at UCLA, scoring 25 points and grabbing nine rebounds to lead USC to a 72-63 win over the No. 4 Bruins. Jefferson scored in double fi gures 19 times and had 12 games of seven or more rebounds.

The Maccabi Haifa Heat held a two-day tryout at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. on July 28-29 and Jefferson was one of 60 players to compete for a roster spot.

LAKERS ANNOUNCE 2008 SUMMER LEAGUE SCHEDULE AND ROSTER

EL SEGUNDO - The Lakers second round pick Joe Crawford will join returning Lakers player Coby Karl on the Lakers entry in this year's NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Nevada it was announced today.

Crawford, a 22 year-old native of Detroit, Michigan, played four seasons at the University of Kentucky, averaging 11.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 127 games (76 starts).

Karl, a 6-5 guard out of Boise State, appeared in 17 games last season for the Lakers, averaging 1.8 points and 0.8 rebounds in 4.2 minutes. Karl also played in 17 games for the Los Angeles D-Fenders where he averaged 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.1 steals in 37.6 minutes while posting a .411 3-point field goal percentage. In the D-Fenders' two playoff games, Karl averaged 13.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.0 steals in 37.0 minutes.

The Lakers will play their first Summer League game vs. the Detroit Pistons on Friday, July 11th at 5pm at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas, NV.
